SUMMARY:Tobacco Cessation and Bias Masterclass Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Historically marginalized communities continue to face disproportionate challenges around access to\, and quality of\, mental health and substance use treatment. Many organizational and clinical practices – such as\, who we fund\, how we prioritize care access and the types of treatments we offer – are often impacted by bias. These biases affect quality of care\, perpetuate mistrust among communities and decrease mental health supports. For tobacco users with mental health and substance use challenges\, bias can influence smoking behavior and hinder associated attempts to quit. \nJoin the National Behavioral Health Network for Tobacco and Cancer Control on Thursday\, June 23\, 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. ET for a masterclass workshop to build awareness around the impacts of bias and provide strategies to overcome these barriers in tobacco cessation treatment. \nThis masterclass workshop will provide real-time discussion and feedback from National Council for Mental Wellbeing experts Tamanna Patel\, MPH\, director\, Practice Improvement and Consulting\, and Amelia Roeschlein\, DSW\, MA\, LMFT\, consultant for Trauma-Informed Resilience-oriented Equitable services. They will bring expertise from a variety of national health equity initiatives. \nAt the end of this masterclass workshop\, you will be able to: \n\nAnalyze the role of bias at the client\, provider and organizational level.\nAnalyze the role of bias among individuals with mental health and substance use challenges who use tobacco.\nExamine two strategies to overcome bias at the provider and organizational level to assist organizations in supporting individuals with mental health and substance use challenges.\n\nRegister Today!
