DESCRIPTION:Teen Smoking\, Vaping & Dipping: How Should Providers Respond? \nAlthough teen cigarette smoking has dropped to historic lows\, rates of electronic cigarette use is more than double that of regular cigarettes. The U.S. surgeon general has declared adolescent nicotine use a pediatric epidemic. This webinar will provide participants with an overview of current research on rates of nicotine and tobacco use with respect to age and race/ethnicity and the effects of nicotine on the adolescent brain. All cigarette smoking including\, electronic cigarette use\, or smokeless tobacco use have associated health risks. Participants will obtain an understanding of how nicotine use often accompanies other drug use and therefore\, needs to be addressed as part of all substance use disorder treatments. DESCRIPTION:  \nSponsored by the Morehouse School of Medicine National Center for Primary Care in partnership with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Psychological Association. \nDescription: \nIndividuals with any mental health problem\, e.g.\, depression\, anxiety\, schizophrenia\, are more likely to smoke than those without a mental illness (59.1%) (SAMHSA\, 2014). Consequently\, they experience more smoking related morbidity and mortality than the general population (Ziedonis & Williams\, 2003; Brown\, Barraclough\, & Inskip\, 2000).  Their health can be improved if providers actively attend to their tobacco use with appropriate\, proven interventions. This webinar will describe reasons tobacco use is not addressed by healthcare providers working with patients with a mental illness\, effective smoking cessation practices\, and available clinical resources. \nThe featured speakers for this webinar are: \n\nDavid Satcher\, MD\, PHD\, Founding Director and Senior Advisor\, The Satcher Health Leadership Institute\, Morehouse School of Medicine\, and 16th Surgeon General of the United States\nTimothy P.
